Welcome to the South Manchester Camera Club Website

South Manchester Camera Club (SMCC) is one of the leading camera clubs in the North West of England. The club has over 90 members and meets on Monday evenings in Didsbury. The club has a varied programme, with a wide range of quality speakers. Members are encouraged to enter the internal monthly competitions and contribute work to external interclub competitions, in which we have had quite a lot of local success.

The club values its traditional photographic routes, without shying away from the latest digital technology. Information on our membership fees can be found here. Please feel free to contact the club (Please read the note below about how to contact us), or come along on a Monday night. Click here for more information about how to join, or click here for a map of how to find us.

  Information: The Didsbury Challenge
Calendar EventThe SMCC meeting on the 21st July will take the form of an outdoor practical evening led by Ray Grover ARPS and is entitled 'The Didsbury Challenge'

After meeting at the club room at 8:00pm, the plan is for members to go out into Didsbury vilage and seek out potential images amongst the shops, cafes, bars, gardens and pubs. This may represent a challenge in such a familiar area but hopefully we can create some great images from opportunities that others may simply pass by.

As an added incentive, each member that attends the session will be encouraged to submit one print (max size A4 and unmounted) together with their usual competition entries the following Monday, July 28th. These prints will be judged as a separate class a week later on the club's August competition night by our visiting judge, and a prize of £10 awarded to the best shot.

The prints can be colour or mono, or in between. There is no restriction on subject matter, but the prints must have been taken on the evening in Didsbury. As usual we will need members club numbers and titles on the back.

Meet at the club room at 8pm, but feel free if you want to start a earlier. We will then meet up afterwards in the Fletcher Moss pub around 10 pm for a drink and to compare notes.

Information: Learn the basics of photography
General InformationFor those of you that are new to the world of digital photography, whether you are a club member or not, you might like to read one of my web sites all about the basics of photography. I try and update it regularly with examples to explain various aspects of photography, hopefully in a way that is easy to understand.

You can view it at www.photography-basics.com and it might be helpful if you are coming along to the Digital Group meetings. Feel free to make any suggestions for what I should cover in future updates and I will see what I can do.

Why Your Camera Does Not Matter
General Informationjohnf writes: If you haven't come across Ken Rockwell's site - www.KenRockwell.com - you may find it of great interest. If he lived a little bit nearer, I would book him for an evening!

  Information: Wild 4 Photographic Safaris
General InformationWild 4 Photographic Safaris has updated what they offer for 2007. It looks like a great way to do a safari, especially as there will be a maximum of 3 photographers so you are able to all get that good spot for the perfect shot.
