Welcome to the South Manchester Camera Club Website

South Manchester Camera Club (SMCC) is one of the leading camera clubs in the North West of England. The club has around 70 members and meets on Monday evenings in Didsbury. The club has a varied programme, with a wide range of quality speakers. Club members are encouraged to enter the internal monthly competitions and contribute work to external interclub competitions, in which we have had quite a lot of local success.

The club values its traditional photographic routes, without shying away from the latest digital technology. Information on our membership fees can be found here. Please feel free to contact the club (Please read the note below about how to contact us), or come along on a Monday night. Click here for more information about how to join, or click here for a map of how to find us.

  Information: Contacting the club
SMCC InformationDue to this site being the target of massive amounts of spam recently (over 1000 spam messages via the feedback form in the last week) I have deactivated the contact form.

If you would like to get in contact with the club then you can email the club by using the following address. Please use webmaster then the @ symbol and then smcc.org.uk.

Hopefully this will help reduce the spam but still allow you to contact the club.

Information: Tooth & Claw: Living alongside Britain's predators
General Information

Animals need to kill each other to survive, but why does this bring out such extreme reactions in us? Find out about your own place in nature and explore your relationship with wild animals. Discover more about the wildlife in our cities, like the Peregrines who have made Manchester City Centre their new home. Should we save them, or look after the pigeon population which they prey upon?

This photography-led exhibition explores these issues and takes a thought-provoking look at our changing relationship with nature.

It runs until 24th Feb 2008 and is well worth a visit.

There are also several related events too, read on to find out what they are.

  News: Harry Fingleton
General InformationThe club is sad to announce the passing of Harry Fingleton, at 90 the club's oldest member.

Harry had been a member of SMCC since the early 1950's, a brilliant monochrome photographer and a cine enthusiast. Recently he bought a digital camera and a laptop!! which showed he was still eager to learn.

We will miss his knowledge and kindness.

Information: Learn the basics of photography
General InformationFor those of you that are new to the world of digital photography, whether you are a club member or not, you might like to read one of my web sites all about the basics of photography. I try and update it regularly with examples to explain various aspects of photography, hopefully in a way that is easy to understand.

You can view it at www.photography-basics.com and it might be helpful if you are coming along to the Digital Group meetings. Feel free to make any suggestions for what I should cover in future updates and I will see what I can do.

  Information: First Digital Group meeting
Digital Group InfoThe first of the new Digital Group meetings is happening this Thursday, 3rd May.

We will be taking this opportunity to go over some of the basics for both cameras and photoshop and get an idea of what the club members would like to learn over the future Digital Group meetings.

We would like to cater for the beginners and the more experienced so we hope to be covering something for everyone at each meeting with more emphasis on learning and developing your skills. So at the end of each meeting you will be given a small task to be done by the next meeting just to you can try out what you learn and then you;ll have the opportunity to ask questions if something wasn't quite clear enough.

See you there!
